The Ghana Lebanon-Islamic School (GLISS), has held its 10th anniversary and first speech and prize-giving day in Accra with a call on wealthy Muslims and non-governmental organizations to establish more Islamic Institutions of higher learning.
The Vice President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, who made the call in a speech read on his behalf by the Deputy Majority Leader in parliament, Mr. Rashid Pelpuo, said the successes chalked up by recently established institutions of higher learning made that move imperative.
The blood donation exercise took place in the school premises under the auspices of the Ghana Blood Transfusion Service on Tuesday 2nd february, 2010.
The school agreed to take part in the blood donation exercise to help the Service get more blood for its bankrupt blood bank.
In order to achieve the objective of attaining high education in a morally sound environment, GLISS sees the weekly Moral Training Session as a major tool in achieving this. This program which started in 2002, has seen a lot of modifications. The program is organised to enlighten students on some important asppects of their life.
The opening ceremony of this year's Inter-Houses sports competition was held at the School's Football field.In his opening address, the Director of the School, Mr. Hamada Mumtaz, advised the students to be guided by the rules and regulations of the school and to do their best to maintain a healthy competition among the various houses in the school.
